Specialized group treatment program for people with acquired brain injuries experiencing challenges in social relationships.
About SIFT IT
SIFT IT is a social cognition group treatment program I developed and trialled as part of my PhD research at UNSW. The program is designed to support individuals experiencing challenges in establishing and maintaining their social relationships following their brain injury.
What SIFT IT Addresses
The program helps individuals:
- Better understand their own and other’s emotions
- Recognise their thinking ‘biases’
- Improve perspective taking
- Choose adaptive behavioural responses
- Align behaviors with personal values and social goals
Group Format
SIFT IT is delivered in a group setting, providing:
- Peer support and learning
- Structured modules and exercises
- Safe environment to practice skills
- Feedback and guidance
- Real-world application strategies
Why Social Cognition Matters
Social cognitive and social behavioural challenges can be particularly burdensome for individuals and their close others following brain injury. I am passionate about supporting people non-judgementally to find ways to better support their social relationships.
Evidence-Based Approach
This program is grounded in research and has been:
- Developed through rigorous PhD research
- Trialled with acquired brain injury populations
- Published in peer-reviewed journals
- Presented at national and international conferences
